Performance Notes

× The Hippodrome’s first Observership of the decade is Native Gardens by Karen ZacarÍas – directed by VC Heidenreich. Pablo, a high-powered lawyer, and doctoral candidate Tania, his very pregnant wife, are realizing the American dream when they purchase a house next door to community stalwarts Virginia and Frank. But a disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out war of taste, class, privilege, and entitlement. The hilarious results guarantee no one comes out smelling like a rose. In the Hippodrome’s Observership Program, YOU are invited to join the backstage world which few audience members get to see. Join the cast and designers from the first rehearsal to the last. Get insider info on the art of acting. Learn how a production is created from design to construction. See first-hand how each show presents unique challenges and learn how we go about solving them. Become an active member of the Hippodrome family and join us to discover how a show goes from page to stage. The Observership package includes 5 classes and 1 ticket to a preview performance. Friday, March 27 th (4-6PM) – Crash course on themes of the play – why this show now? – and behind-the-scenes look at the Hipp. Friday, April 3 rd (12:45-3PM) – Meet the cast, director, and designers. Attend the first read-through and see design presentations. Friday, April 10 th (3-5PM) – Discuss the creative process with the designers and attend a rehearsal. Thursday, April 16 th (Time TBD) – Attend a full run-through on the mainstage with the Press in attendance. Wednesday, April 22 nd (7-10PM) – Attend a preview performance with costumes and tech – afterwards, sit in on the director’s notes to the cast.
